Quick answer
A website usually does not show on Google because it is not indexed yet, is blocked by a noindex tag or robots.txt, is too new, has thin or duplicate content, or is outranked by stronger pages. Check Google Search Console first: it shows whether your pages are indexed and why not.
Key takeaways
- First check if your site is indexed at all
- Noindex tags and robots.txt blocks are common mistakes
- New sites need time and links to be found
- Ranking for your brand name comes before ranking for services
You launched a website, but searching for it on Google shows nothing. Here are the usual reasons and how to fix them.
First, check what Google sees
Search site:yourdomain.com. If nothing appears, your site is not indexed. Then open Google Search Console and use URL Inspection on your home page.
10 common reasons
- It is new. Google has not found it yet. Submit a sitemap in Search Console.
- Noindex tag. Many WordPress sites have “Discourage search engines” ticked during development. Untick it in Settings, Reading.
- robots.txt blocking. Check yoursite.com/robots.txt for “Disallow: /”.
- No links pointing to it. Add it to your Google profile, social pages and directories.
- Thin content. Pages with a few lines rarely get indexed. Add useful detail.
- Duplicate content. Copied text from suppliers or other sites.
- Technical errors. Server errors, broken redirects or very slow loading. See technical SEO basics.
- Wrong keyword expectations. You may rank for your name but not yet for “best agency in India”.
- Penalty or spam signals. Rare, but check Manual actions in Search Console.
- Strong competition. Others have more content, reviews and links.
What to fix first
| If | Then |
|---|---|
| Not indexed at all | Check noindex, robots.txt, submit sitemap |
| Indexed but not ranking for services | Improve service pages, local SEO, reviews |
| Ranking, but on page 3 | Improve content, internal links, backlinks |
